The Mercer Island community and its well-being are the primary reasons for my decision to run for City Council. I am an Islander through and through. I grew up here – starting my education at Country Village Day School & Island Park, attending Islander Middle School and Mercer Island High School. After graduating from MIHS, I pursued an undergraduate degree in Systems Engineering at the University of Pennsylvania. During college, I had the opportunity to intern at the White House with President Bill Clinton.

After college graduation, I set sail with the Peace Corps for Namibia and Madagascar to teach Math and English and support communities in areas of poverty. Living in and working with these different cultures widened my world vision and appreciation for preservation of local character.

I moved to New York City where I worked as an analyst at Goldman Sachs. I then launched into a law degree at Pepperdine University followed by a Master of Law in Taxation at the University of Washington.  I am licensed to practice law in Washington and California and before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

With multiple degrees in hand, I headed to our state’s capitol to clerk for two Washington State Supreme Court justices. Moving over to the legislative branch, I served as a staff attorney for the Washington State Senate. There I researched, drafted, and advised on policy relating to economic development, tax, and natural resources. I have always been passionate about law, serving the public good in Washington State, and returning home to make an impact on the Island.

My husband and I, our 16 month old daughter, and dog, proudly call Mercer Island home. Naturally, we decided that there was no better place in the world to start our family. We live on the south end of the Island in the Island Point neighborhood. My parents still live on the Island too. Safety and a low crime rate were definitely considerations for us when purchasing our home. We enjoy the outstanding parks, libraries, schools, and sense of community; for our family this is the place to be!

Currently I am a small-business owner in the legal field. I am competitive, compassionate, and concise. I will always put the best interest of Mercer Island residents first; justly and fairly serving the entire community.

I am a certified yoga instructor, avid reader, mother, dog enthusiast, and connoisseur of life on Mercer Island. You can often find me on the paths of Pioneer Park with my daughter in the carrier – I love this place.

I have run five marathons and my goal is to run one in every state. In this race for City Council, I am in it to win for Islanders!

With gratitude and thanks,
Traci Granbois
